Rolling Stone 200 greatest singers list snubs Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Justin Bieber, more

With its new ranking of the 200 greatest singers of all time, Rolling Stone has caused controversy.
The magazine opened the new year with an update to their list of the top pop performers, which it first published in 2008.
Powerhouses like Celine Dion, Pink, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Hudson, Janet Jackson, Tony Bennett, Madonna, Nat King Cole, Dionne Warwick, and others are not included on the list this time.
According to Rolling Stone, the criteria for the new list were originality, influence, the breadth of an artist’s musical legacy, and the depth of their discography. “This new list was compiled our staff and key contributors, and it encompasses 100 years of pop music as an ongoing global conversation,” the publication states.
On Twitter, there was a lot of debate concerning the omitted artists and the rating order.

“At eighty-six, THE @MichaelJackson was discovered? and NOTHING from @CelineDion?” Tweeted actress Yvette Nicole Brown. “What are we really accomplishing if Celine Dion isn’t in the Top Ten at the LEAST? After all, the way MJ sung “With a Child’s Heart” when he was a CHILD makes him top three at the very least. @RollingStone, oh no.”
What do you mean Celine Dion is not on the Rolling Stone list? a Twitter user questioned.
Another user said, “I’m sorry, but Jennifer Hudson is a better singer than 95% of the individuals on that #RollingStone list. “She has a huge influence. The EGOT winner made undeniable contributions to television, theatre, music, and film.”
In addition to Hudson, fellow EGOT winners Rita Moreno and John Legend were left off the list.

The Top 100 was not broken by Jazmine Sullivan, Christina Aguilera, Carrie Underwood, or Kelly Clarkson, despite their inclusion on the chart.
“It turned out that Rolling Stone Magazine was unreliable. Putting Christina Aguilera in this position. 2. Giving Taylor Swift a higher ranking than Alicia Keys, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jazmine Sullivan, and Kelly Clarkson. 3. Celine Dion, a member of the vocal trinity, was not placed last “A critic on Twitter commented.
Another user responded similarly, “Celine Dion and Janet Jackson weren’t even mentioned in Rolling Stone’s list of the top 200 vocalists, but Taylor Swift was. And they placed Kelly Clarkson BELOW Rihanna?”

Lead vocalists whose singing teammates were left out were among the other snubs. Stevie Nicks achieved success without Fleetwood Mac, Jungkook was removed from BTS, Beyoncé did not include other Destiny’s Child members, Diana Ross did not include the Supremes, Ozzy Osbourne did not place with Black Sabbath, and Mick Jagger was not listed with the Rolling Stones.
Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Sam Cooke took the top three slots on Rolling Stone’s list, which was heavily influenced by soul and R&B.
