Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sonia Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary. Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, accompanied by party chief Kharge, paid floral tributes to the Iron Lady at Shakti Sthal, the resting place of Indira Gandhi. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and senior Congress leader Bhupinder Hooda were also seen paying their respect at the Raj Ghat. Rahul Gandhi, who is leading the Bharat Jodo Yarta, also paid floral tribute to the former Prime Minister on her birth anniversary during the march.
“Tributes to our previous PM Mrs. Indira Gandhi Ji on her birth anniversary,” tweeted PM Modi, who will start his three-day campaign in Gujarat on Saturday.
Only female MLAs, MPs, party workers, panchayat members, and Bharat Jodo Yatris will walk in the Bharat Jodo Yatra with Rahul Gandhi to demonstrate “mahila shakti,” according to a statement by Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh earlier to news agency ANI.

She was Jawaharlal Nehru’s, India’s first prime minister after independence, daughter. Her mother, Kamala Nehru, was a member of the Indian National Congress and a freedom fighter as well.
In 1966, Indira Gandhi was chosen to serve as India’s third prime minister. Under her guidance, India waged war against Pakistan in support of East Pakistan’s independence movement, leading to the establishment of Bangladesh. From 1975 to 1977, there was also an emergency under Gandhi’s administration.
