An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale hit Uttarakhand on Wednesday morning, hours after powerful tremors shook Delhi.
The earthquake struck at 6:27 am, with its epicentre five kilometres beneath Pithoragarh. However, there have been no reports of casualties or property damage.
According to experts, Uttarakhand has seen 700 tremors in the last ten years, and the major one is still to come.
In the early hours of Wednesday, Nepal was struck by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale. Parts of the Delhi-NCR region felt the tremors as well.
On Wednesday, the earthquake occurred at roughly 1.57 am. According to the National Center for Seismology, the epicentre was in Nepal.
In the previous five hours, there had been three earthquakes in Nepal. The National Center for Seismology reports that on Tuesday, Nepal had two earthquakes, the first of 4.9 magnitude at 8:52 p.m. and the second of 3.5 magnitude at 9:41 p.m. At 1.57 am on Wednesday, a third 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck the nation; tremors were felt in delhi.
Following the earthquake, a house collapsed in Nepal’s Doti district, causing the deaths of six people.
